Board of Guardians paperwork for British Children who immigrated to Canada note that Denis Donovan arrived in 1913 at the age of 14 from Southwark Union through the Catholic Emigration Association.  His first Inspection was 31 May, he was to be seen two more times.  He was seen 19 Feb and 15 Jun with a final notice on 14 Nov 1918 that he had been on Active Service and had died.

Attestation papers were signed 20 May 1918 in the Barriefield Camp, Ontario.  Dennis  Donovan was born 9 Jul 1898 in London, England.  He was a Farmer by trade in Toledo, Ontario.  His Next of Kin was his Mother, Mrs. Lizzie Donovan of London, England, address unknown.  5'4" with blue eyes and black hair, he had flat feet.  His religion was noted as Roman Catholic.

Commonwealth War Graves Registers and Circumstances of Casualty states that he was admitted to Queens Military Hospital in Kingston, Ontario on 16 Oct 1918 and died of Influenza on 9 Nov 1918.  His Next of Kin was Mr. J Donovan of Toledo, Ontario which was changed to Mr. J. L. Hofferman of the same place.  He is buried in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Kingston, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada.  Grave 4, Range 1, Grave No. C 3054.
